Service Description

Everyone is unique: limb lengths, posture; muscular strengths and weakness; old injuries; body weight, shape and size are some of the varying factors that may affect how we walk and run. While the textbooks may advocate for an ideal or "normal" gait, in practise, we all have imbalances of varying degrees that our bodies adapt around in their own way. Just because someone runs in an atypical manner doesn't mean that they're doomed to suffer from shin splints or back pain. However, there is a limit to how much the body can adapt before the accumulation of excess stress and strain takes its toll - that's where Gait Assessment can be beneficial. By observing how we walk / run can help to uncover causal factors at the root of existing pain and, ideally, highlight and address them before they develop into painful conditions. Who it's for: - New runners; couch to 5km. - Novice to intermediate (10km to marathon) - Sportsmen/women who run during games - Anyone who gets pain when walking, hiking or running. It's not only for athletes What's Involved: - Full assessment of gait mechanics - Highlight potential risk factors associated with gait dysfunctions and their associated injuries - Highlighting what you're doing well and/or don't need to correct - Exercises and cues that will help to address potential risk factors - Exercises to aid any current running related pain symptoms - Full write up report of Gait Assessment Additionally, for In Person sessions only: - Muscle testing for weakness and imbalances - Muscle firing sequence test (are muscle groups coordinating properly) - Movement pattern tests designed to expose any weaknesses under load which may transfer over to running. What Is Required from You: - Online Assessment - video footage of treadmill walking or running - In Person - Video footage of treadmill walking / running Or - Access to treadmill at home Contact Aaron for more details on booking a Gait Assessment and what's involved
